Paul Farbrace, Trevor Bayliss’ assistant, has backed Eoin Morgan to regain his place in the test team.
Morgan has not featured in whites for England for more than 3 years.
His last test match was against Pakistan in February 2012.
He had struggled immensely against the Pakistani bowlers on the square turning pitches of Emirates at that time. .
England suffered a 3-0 whitewash and Morgan proved to be the scapegoat despite the fact that he was not the only one to be amongst the low scores in that particular series.
He has been quite a regular as far as the limited over games are concerned and is now even in charge of the English side.
But, in 5-day Cricket, the door still seems to be closed on him.
The Middlesex left hander is not on the fringes as far as the selection in the test team is concerned.
However, according to Farbrace, Morgan’s consistency in the One Day Internationals and the T20s might bring him in consideration for the longer formats too.
Speaking to a channel, Farbrace said, “Eoin has recently had a good series as batsman and captain and if he keeps going like this, his comeback in the tests might not be that far away. I hundred percent believe he still has it in him.”
“The performances that you put in any format, they do not go without being noticed. The selectors do keep them in their minds and you never know when your opportunity pops up. So, you need to be ready.”
“I would not be surprised if I see Eoin back in the test colours and piling up runs for England in future.”
Morgan’s average in the 16 test matches that he has played so far is just a touch above 30.
